If you want to improve your photography, then here is what you do…..

My son says ‘get involved with the photos’, then again he was a philosophy major. I’m a little more concrete than that…
You, not some expert, need to figure out what it is that makes nice photos, then you can start incorporating those elements into your photos. (only slightly more concrete…)

My recommendation to those in my classes is to join PhotoSig.com and write 100 successful critiques of photos of your choice. To do this, you will end up reading other critiques and learn about different ways to look at photos. You will discover what it is that you individually like in photos and how to bring that about. This is not a quick process, but it works. I have seen it work with myself, and with others.

There are other sites that you may find that will allow you to write critiques as well, I haven’t bothered finding them.

One of the reasons this works is that the photos are not our own, and it allows us to see with an unbiased eye rather than the tendency that my photos are always good.
Another reason Photosig works is that there is a huge diversity of both photos and perspectives, so that we don’t get stuck with just our own thinking.  Try setting a goal to write 1 critique a night.  I think you will be surprised before you are half way through.

Note that this photo was a practice photo from a kindly soul who let several of us borrow his model for a few minutes.
